PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called early Monday morning to reports of a house fire in the area of S. Folkers Avenue and W. Antoinette.
Fire Battalion Chief Josh Maroney said crews arrived just before 1 a.m., finding smoke coming from the home.
The first engine company on the scene used a thermal imaging camera to find the fire in the attic above the kitchen.
Firefighters brought the fire under control within 10 minutes, preventing it from spreading beyond the kitchen ceiling.
Due to smoke and water damage on the main level of the home, damage is estimated at $20,000.
Two adults and one child were in the home at the time of the fire, but they got out safely before crews arrived. They were displaced, but made their own temporary housing arrangement, Maroney said.
A fire investigator on the scene said the cause of the fire was faulty electrical wiring.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
