PEORIA, Ill. — Art students from Washington Community High School used their skills Friday to create a mural in Dax’s Playroom of the Ronald McDonald House.
The mural include color blobs and drawings from the students said WCHS art instructor, Margaret Kuchen.
“We’re coming in and installing our color and our drawings. The kids are all doing original artwork on the wall. And then when we are done with this, then they are going to install the actual physical elements to the room that we’ve designed,” Kuchen said.
The other elements include a selfie station where kids can take pictures of themselves or their art.
Engineering students from WCHS 3-D printed shapes to go with the magnetic wall, with a metal blob created by Bradley University students.
“And then we move into the imagination station which is vintage recycled materials and some 3-D printed contraptions from the engineering students to mount them to the wall,” Kuchen said.
The music station of the room will take up two and a half walls of the room.
Stimulation is a goal for the room and there will also be nine wall pockets that hold mental questions and light physical exercises the kids can do.
Julia Funk, WCHS Sophomore, said it is amazing knowing that her artwork will be a part of the playroom.
“I haven’t really done anything this important artistically before. It’s nice knowing that my work will be up here for a very long time and a lot of kids will get to experience it,” Funk said.
The Peoria Ronald McDonald House is set to open in December.
