WOODFORD COUNTY, Ill. – A fatal two-vehicle crash on Interstate 39 in Woodford County is under investigation.
The Woodford County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a serious accident at 12:05 p.m. Thursday on southbound I-39 just north of El Paso.
The crash has shut down part of the southbound interstate between Minonk and El Paso. Woodford County Sheriff Chief Deputy Dennis Tipsword said drivers are being rerouted off the interstate at mile marker 22 and Illinois 116, directed to southbound Route 251, and allowed back onto I-39 at mile marker 14 in El Paso.
The crash involved a semi tractor trailer and a passenger car. The semi was hauling an oversized load and traveling at a reduced speed when the passenger vehicle struck the back of the semi.
The single male occupant of the passenger car was found deceased at the scene.
Woodford County deputies are investigating the crash with assistance from the Illinois State Police.
