PEORIA, Ill. – More details have been released regarding the Peoria County Sheriff’s deputy who was shot Saturday night during a traffic stop.
24-year-old Jack Evans was sworn-in to the sheriff’s office on January 3rd, 2023.
Sheriff Chris Watkins says Evans suffered gunshot wounds to both of his legs and his torso during the altercation in the area of South Western and Marquette.
51-year-old Larry Bell was arrested about two hours after the shooting, and is charged with attempted murder in connection to the shooting.
Watkins says Evans remains under medical care and has a long road to recovery, but is in good spirits.
Watkins says Evans has served “with professionalism, dedication, and a strong commitment to public safety,” and adds he has won numerous awards in his three years with the office.
Watkins is asking the public to keep Evans, his loved ones, and all first responders in their thoughts.
The Peoria Police Department continues to investigate the shooting.
