PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – Peoria High School basketball coach Daniel Ruffin will stay in jail and has been placed on unpaid leave following his arrest Monday morning on charges of soliciting a minor.
Peoria Police said Ruffin sent several inappropriate texts to a 16-year-old female student at the school. Jail records show he has not yet been released.
Ruffin is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. According to 25 News, Peoria Public Schools confirmed he has been placed on unpaid leave.
Ruffin is a graduate of Peoria High and Bradley University, where he played on the Braves’ Sweet Sixteen team in the early 2000s.
Ryan McElmurry has been named interim head coach.
The team is 8-0 in Big 12 Conference play and 17-7 overall.
