PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria woman was sentenced Friday to 45 years in prison for the stabbing death of a 26-year-old woman in 2023.
Cathy A. Logan, 55, was sentenced for the August 2023 stabbing death of Tanazisha Green at a Phillips 66 gas station on Western Avenue in Peoria, according to the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s office. Logan must serve 100 percent of her sentence.
In August 2023, Peoria police responded to the Phillips 66 gas station on Western Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found Green on the ground with two women applying pressure to a single stab wound to her chest.
Officers immediately took over life-saving measures, but Green was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Logan claimed she acted in self-defense. However, witness testimony and surveillance footage presented at trial contradicted that claim.
Evidence showed Logan arrived at the gas station, set her purse down, grabbed the murder weapon, approached Green, and stabbed her in the chest. After the stabbing, Logan walked away, then turned back, picked up the murder weapon, and fled the area.
The weapon was never recovered.
During the hearing, Assistant State’s Attorney Katie Moushon urged the court to impose a long prison sentence, arguing that Logan initiated the confrontation that led to Green’s death.
