PEORIA, Ill. – (25 News) – Peoria Public Schools’ Board of Education has chosen an administrator from the Decatur school district to oversee finances at PPS.
According to 25 News, Michael Curry will take over July 1 for Mick Willis, who’s retiring as PPS chief financial officer.
Curry is the current chief operational officer for Decatur Public School District #61 where he’s in charge of budgets topping $120 million, in addition to facilities, grants, and athletics, according to a release.
During his 18-year-career as an administrator, Curry has also been a superintendent for two districts, a principal, teacher, and a coach.
The PPS board agreed to a three-year contract for Curry, who will earn an annual base salary of $210,000, according to a PPS release.
The board approved Curry’s appointment on a 4-0 vote. Board member Martha Ross abstained, but she did not explain why during the public session.
This is the third leadership position to be filled by the PPS board during the past two weeks.
On January 27, the board chose Syracuse, NY school administrator Jerry Bell as the next PPS superintendent, taking over for retiring Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat on July 1.
The board also created a deputy superintendent’s position, hiring current Richwoods High School Assistant Principal Renee Andrews.
PPS officials said the district will pay Bell an annual base salary of $255,000, and Andrews a yearly base salary of $175,000.
