PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County judge has released from custody a woman accused of a crash in Central Peoria that left another driver paralyzed.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 28-year-old Ganala Johnson was released with conditions because of a lack of a criminal history. Those conditions include not having intoxicating compounds, to not operate a motor vehicle, not possessing any weapon, and to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
Johnson is charged with five counts of Aggravated DUI in connection to a Friday night crash at University and McClure involving a truck and SUV.
Prosecutors say video surveillance from a nearby gas station shows the truck slowly pulling out when the SUV, allegedly traveling 80 miles per hour, smashes into it.
The truck driver suffered a spinal cord injury and is paralyzed from the neck down, while four people in Johnson’s vehicle suffered injuries. The four include an adult who suffered a broken hip, two children who suffered concussions, and a child who suffered a broken nose.
Prosecutors say Johnson was taken to a hospital after the crash and allegedly admitted to drinking.
