PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County jury has found a man guilty of taking videos and photos of himself in sexual acts with a minor relative.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 23-year-old Carlos Montoya-Bustamante was convicted Wednesday of two counts of Child Pornography after a three day trial.
Prosecutors say the victim, who was 16 at the time of the incident in July of 2022, testified that she received a Facebook message from an unknown profile, demanding explicit photos and videos and set a deadline to submit them.
The victim disclosed the messages to the Montoya and another relative, with Montoya convincing the victim to engage in sexual acts with him.
The victim later told a parent and police became involved, with detectives testifying that the Facebook account and IP addresses were linked back to Montoya. Prosecutors say Montoya admitted to police to messaging the victim and engaging in sexual acts with her to ”teach her a lesson.”
Montoya will be sentenced on April 1st.
