PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria family was displaced Wednesday night by a fire in the area of N. Victoria Avenue and W. Overbrook Drive.
The Peoria Fire Department responded to the fire around 8:45 p.m., finding smoke coming from the home and a fire in the basement.
Fire Battalion Chief Mike Ralston said two adults, a child, and two dogs evacuated safely before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
Crews were able to put out the fire quickly, preventing it from spreading through the home.
Damage is estimated at $20,000. The displaced family is staying with relatives.
Peoria Fire reminds residents to keep all storage items clear of heat-producing appliances like furnaces and water heaters, maintaining at least three feet of clearance.
Residents should also avoid storing combustible materials such as cardboard boxes or clothing in mechanical areas to reduce the risk of fire.
