PEORIA, Ill. – Arson appears to be the cause of a fire Monday night in Peoria, with damage estimated at $75,000.
Peoria firefighters were called to a home in the area of Fairholm Avenue and NE Adams Street around 6:45 p.m.
A bystander alerted the crew at Fire Station 12, just across the street, who saw the flames and were the first to respond.
Fire Battalion Chief Rick Waldron said heavy fire was visible from the front of the boarded-up home. Once inside, crews found significant smoke and fire on all three floors.
Multiple companies were called to the scene. The fire was put out within 30 minutes. A search of the home confirmed it was vacant.
A Peoria Fire Investigator determined the fire was set intentionally after finding an accelerant where the fire started.
No injuries were reported.
The home is slated for immediate demolition.
