METAMORA, Ill. — Thanksgiving is one of the busiest holidays for roadway travel, and Illinois State Police are prepared for the increased traffic.
ISP Public Information Officer Haylie Polistina said troopers will be keeping an eye out for the fatal four.
“Speeding, DUI, wearing your seat belt, [and] distracted driving,” Polistina said. “Things that cause fatalities and crashes and injuries on the roadway.”
The annual Click It or Ticket campaign began on November 22 and will run through December 2.
“We’re just really stepping up our patrols to enforce seat belts and making sure that people aren’t driving on the roadway under the influence,” Polistina said. “Buzzed driving is drunk driving.”
It is estimated that around 55 million people will be traveling in Illinois over the holiday weekend.
“It’s important to reduce your speed, watch out for other vehicles on the roadway, stay off your phone, and wear your seat belt,” Polistina said.
