MORTON, Ill. – Great Harvest Bread Co. in Morton has permanently closed its doors after 14 years in business.
The bakery announced the closure on its Facebook page, thanking customers and the Morton community for their support.
“For years, this cafe was a place where the community gathered for fresh food and friendly conversation,” the post stated. “We are incredibly grateful for the support from our loyal customers and the Morton community who made this small business such a special place to be.”
The business did not specify the reason for the closure.
In November 2025, a fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the business. The Morton Fire Department responded to the scene at 155 East Jackson Street after a passerby reported smoke coming from the building. Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire in the kitchen area, which extended into the attic space.
The owner expressed gratitude to employees who worked at the location over the years.
“I am especially thankful for all of the wonderful employees who worked here over the past 14 years,” the announcement stated. “The friendships formed and memories made will always mean a great deal to me.”
