PEORIA, Ill. – The final defendant to be sentenced in an attempted robbery in Peoria that turned fatal more than two years ago learned his fate.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 20-year-old Keshawn Williams was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Wednesday.
Williams pleaded guilty in December to Armed Robbery, with prosecutors arguing for the maximum of 21 years under part of a plea deal.
Prosecutors say Williams was one of five defendants lying in wait to rob two individuals who purchased an alleged vehicle through Facebook Marketplace on January 15th, 2024. One of the purchasers, a lawful firearm owner, exchanged gunfire with one of the robbers, killing them.
Williams was one of five people charged in the case, with the previous four sentenced on an Armed Robbery charge.
20-year-old Jayln Branscumb was sentenced to 22 years, 29-year-old Sontarrius Williams was sentenced to 22 years, Tanarius Kingcade was sentenced to 21 years, and 21-year-old Jonathan Williams was sentenced to eight years.
