PEORIA, Ill. – Average gas prices in Peoria have jumped 29.8 cents per gallon in the last week, with an average of $3.68 on Monday, according to a GasBuddy.
This surge means prices are now 76.3 cents per gallon higher than a month ago, and 45.1 cents higher than this time last year.
- Local Range: Sunday’s GasBuddy price reports showed the cheapest gas in Peoria was $3.53 a gallon, while the most expensive gas was $3.99.
- State Highs: The lowest price in Illinois Sunday was $3.06, with the state high climbing to $4.99 a gallon.
Meanwhile, AAA Illinois reported the average price of gas in the Peoria/Pekin area on Monday was $3.67, the state’s average price was $3.72, and the national price was $3.71.
GasBuddy’s national average price of gas has also seen a significant jump, rising 23.2 cents in the last week to $3.68.
GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan attributes the rising costs to elevated geopolitical tensions and the seasonal transition to summer gas blends.
“Consumers continue to feel the sting of rising oil, gasoline, and diesel costs as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remain elevated, pushing gasoline prices to their highest levels in years,” De Haan said. “Upward pressure on fuel prices is likely to persist.”
The national average is now up 80.0 cents per gallon from a month ago, and is 66.1 cents higher than a year ago.
