PEORIA, Ill. – Two men have been arrested for their alleged connection to a South Peoria armed hijacking.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 27-year-old Anthony Campbell and 34-year-old Christopher Coleman were ordered held at a detention hearing.
Peoria Police says officers made contact with a 48-year-old male victim just after 4:00 A.M. Saturday near Warren and Ann Streets.
The victim reportedly told police the suspects allegedly opened his vehicle, pointed a firearm at his head, and demanded personal belongings before ordering the victim out of the vehicle.
Police say the pair also allegedly attempted to forcefully enter a residence by kicking the door, but were unsuccessful. The pair then reportedly fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.
Police later found the stolen vehicle traveling on Northeast Adams and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled before reportedly crashing at Adams and Lorenz.
Police say a handgun was allegedly recovered from Coleman, with prosecutors saying the victim’s ID cards were also reportedly found on him.
Both were charged with Aggravated Vehicle Hijacking and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. Police also charged Campbell with Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Coleman was additionally charged by police with Obstructing Justice, Obstructing a Police Officer, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, and multiple traffic violations.
