EAST PEORIA, Ill. –Taxes will remain the same in East Peoria.
The city council Tuesday night voted to keep the tax levy the same through next year.
Now that the City Council approved the proposed ordinance, the city estimates the amount of real estate tax collected will increase from $5,514,770 in 2018 to approximately $5,529,550 in 2019 for an estimated increase of $14,780. While the amount collected by the City will increase by approximately 0.27%, based on the availability of property assessed for the first time and based on estimated values provided by the supervisor of assessments, East Peoria officials believe the tax rate will remain the same and property taxes paid to the City by an existing property owner in 2018 will remain the same in 2019.
The council also approved an ordinance prohibiting the purchase of tobacco and e-cigarettes by anyone under the age of 21, and also amended the city code to prohibit the possession of
e-cigarettes by anyone under the age of 18. The move keeps the city in line with the state of Illinois.
