PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – Northwoods Mall is imposing a weekend curfew because mall managers said groups of kids are disrupting shoppers and businesses.
Effective immediately, anyone under 16 must be with a parent or guardian Friday through Sunday after 4 p.m., or they’ll be asked to leave.
Police could be called if young people refuse to leave the mall.
Mall management said groups of minors have been running through the halls, disrupting businesses. Mall Security will enforce the policy, and officials said the curfew could be expanded to weekdays if problems continue.
“I think it’s important. Northwoods Mall has never had that before and I just am seeing more and more kids wanting to hang out and just cause problems in the mall instead of shopping and eating and playing games. But they are disrupting other families that want to have fun,” Julie Revallo, Northwoods’ general manager, told 25 News.
Frustrated mall officials said they’ve waited a long time to enforce this rule.
The full policy and any exceptions are posted inside the mall and online.
