PEORIA, Ill. – UnityPoint Health has gotten regulatory approval to purchase a former Peoria County facility in order to expand its mental health services.
UnityPoint says the Illinois Health Facilities and Review Board has green-lit its purchase of the former Heddington Oaks facility to treat mental health and substance abuse among youth, part of what they call the “Young Minds Project.”
UnityPoint CEO Keith Knepp says the approval speaks volumes to the need for increased behavioral health services in the region.
“As health care providers, we are excited to be one step closer to providing a much-needed resource for our community and children in need,” said Knepp, in a news release.
The Peoria County Board in March approved selling the former skilled nursing facility to UnityPoint. Fundraising for the project is ongoing, and renovations are also expected.
