PEORIA, Ill. – Two firefighters were hurt after falling through a porch while battling a fire Thursday morning.
Crews were called just after 7:15 a.m. to a home in the 3000 block of N. Sheridan Road in Peoria, between Forrest Hill and Melbourne, finding heavy fire showing.
Fire Battalion Chief Josh Martin says they were able to bring the fire under control within 15 minutes. A search confirmed that no one was inside the home.
Both firefighters who were injured were assisted by nearby personnel. One firefighter was taken by AMT to OSF Saint Francis in stable condition.
Damage to the home is estimated at $150,000. An arson investigator was requested to the scene, and the fire remains under investigation.
