PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters were called Thursday night to a fire at Getz Industrial Cleaning in the 1400 block of SW Jefferson Avenue.
First crews on the scene arrived just after 8:45 p.m. They found heavy smoke and flames coming from two large overhead doors. No one was inside the building.
Fire was initially located inside a single cleaning bay.
“We discovered there was more fire in the attic space above the offices in the center of the building. So, we had to readjust and pull some additional lines and call additional companies in,” Rice said.
It took firefighters about 35 minutes to extinguish the fire.
“It was kind of a complicated fire, just because of the nature of the building. A commercial structure with kind of large open areas. That can present some difficulties getting to the fire,” Rice said.
As of Friday morning, the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
