PEORIA, Ill. – A man must remain in the Peoria County Jail after allegedly beating his girlfriend over the course of several hours.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 21-year-old Johnnie Chiaravalle is charged with two counts of Aggravated Domestic Battery, Domestic Battery, and Unlawful Restraint. He was ordered detained at a hearing on Tuesday.
Prosecutors say police responded Monday morning to the East Bluff Community Center, finding a woman who was attacked. Officers observed the victim reportedly with eyes nearly swollen shut, multiple cuts and lacerations on both legs, and visible bruising on her face and body.
The victim reportedly told police her boyfriend, Chiaravalle, would not let her leave the house and beat her over the course of eight to nine hours.
Chiaravalle allegedly struck her in the face, head, and body with his fists, strangled her numerous times, and threw knives at her.
The victim stated that she was able to leave once he fell asleep the next day.
Chiaravalle allegedly claimed he was asleep and someone else caused the injuries. But police reportedly found clumps of hair believed to be the victim’s inside the home, as well as red blood like stains and multiple knives.
