PEORIA, Ill. — Three Peoria firefighters suffered dog bites Saturday evening while trying to rescue three dogs from a vacant home on fire in South Peoria.
The Fire Department was called to a home on W. Proctor Street, between Ann and Antoinette, just before 7 p.m.
During the rescue attempt, the firefighters were bitten by dogs inside the home.
Battalion Chief Mike Ralston says two of the firefighters were taken to the OSF Emergency Department for treatment, while the third was treated at the scene.
Peoria County Animal Control secured all three dogs, placing them in quarantine.
An investigator determined the cause of the fire was electrical in nature, with damage estimated at $10,000. Ameren Illinois secured the utilities.
No civilian injuries were reported, and the incident remains under investigation.
