PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters were called just before 9:30 p.m. Friday to a home in the 3000 block of W. Ann on reports of a fire.
Crews found heavy smoke pouring out the front of the home.
Peoria Fire Battalion Chief Rick Morgan said it took a while to get to the source of the fire in the basement.
“It was a heavy fire load down there. There were a lot of clothes down there. Just a lot of storage and things like that. It was a pretty stubborn fire for a house of that size,” Morgan said.
It took firefighters around 20 minutes to extinguish the fire.
“The basement floor, joists, rafters, they were exposed to the fire, so they were charred pretty good. There was a lot of smoke and fire damage,” Morgan said.
The Red Cross was called to assist two adults and three children with temporary housing.
An investigator deemed the cause of the fire accidental.
