PEORIA, Ill. — Firefighters in Peoria were busy late Thursday night battling a structure fire that spread to a trailer and a detached garage, but they safely pulled seven pets out of the home.
Fire Battalion Chief Josh Martin says around 10 p.m., crews arrived at the home in the 3900 block of N. Dayton Avenue, finding heavy fire. They had the fire out in about 15 minutes.
Residents of the home had already gotten out safely before the fire department arrived. But, seven pets were trapped inside. Firefighters rescued three dogs, two cats, and two lizards.
No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at $75,000. An arson investigator was called to the scene, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
