(25 News) – Six schools in the Heart of Illinois have been invited to apply for statewide Blue Ribbon School recognition.
Germantown Hills Middle School, Illini Bluffs Middle School, Midwest Central Primary School, Morton Jr. High School, Charter Oak Primary School and Sowers Elementary School join a total of 50 schools around the state to apply, according to the Illinois State Board of Education.
The state intends to recognize 16 of these schools next year, emphasizing schools that have demonstrated success in closing achievement gaps.
In an email, Germantown Hills Superintendent Dr. Adam Brumbaugh said schools are selected based on exceptional academic performance, typically ranking among the top-performing schools in the state in English Language Arts and Mathematics or demonstrating outstanding success in closing achievement gaps.
Fifty schools were deemed eligible to apply, out of 4,386 public and private schools.
The deadline for districts to submit their application is July 1. The 16 schools will be announced by the state board of education in the fall.
