PEORIA, Ill. — The local community has risen to the occasion again.
The 19th annual “Drive for Miracles” between Dec. 12 and 13 raised $304,662, surpassing the $300,000 goal.
The money raised during the radiothon pays for equipment, research, and programs at OSF Children’s Hospital.
John Riley, WMBD sister media outlet 93.3 The Drive personality, has hosted the event since its inception.
“[Beating the goal] amazes me, and then it doesn’t, because this community really knows this place and understands what it does,” he said.
“When Peoria and the surrounding area get together to help kids, it always ends up being a big number.
“So, yeah, it’s really cool.”
Riley said 2019 was a big year for individual donors.
“Sometimes, people are just generous,” he said.
“This year was one of those years where people really saw the need, understood the need, and just cut a big check. It’s different every year.”
