PEORIA, Ill. – A man will spend the rest of his life in prison for a fatal shooting at a West Peoria gas station three years ago.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 25-year-old Lamentae Turner was sentenced to natural life in prison on Friday.
Turner was convicted in May of 2025 for the death of 35-year-old Stashaun Wheeler at the Casey’s on Farmington Road in the early morning hours of January 22nd, 2023. Wheeler was pronounced dead in the parking lot after being shot at least ten times.
At the sentencing hearing, Wheeler’s mom told the court that losing her child is the most painful experience. She added that if she has to spend the rest of her life visiting her son in the cemetery, then Turner should spend the rest of his life in prison.
The sentencing hearing was delayed for more than a year, after the court granted multiple continuances requested by the defense.
