PEORIA, Ill. – A driver is on the run after causing a violent crash that left a passenger fighting for their life in Peoria overnight.
Police say It happened just after 1:20 a.m. at the intersection of North Central Avenue and McClure. When first responders arrived, they found two mid-sized cars with major damage.
Investigators say one of the vehicles was moving at a high rate of speed and slammed into the side of another car.
The driver of the speeding car didn’t stay to help—they took off before police arrived.
A passenger in the car that was hit was pulled from the wreckage without a pulse. Paramedics immediately started CPR and rushed them to the trauma center. Two other people were hurt in the wreck as well, though their injuries aren’t considered life-threatening.
