PEORIA, Ill. – Average gas prices in Peoria have risen 8.5 cents a gallon in the last week, averaging $4.22 a gallon on Monday, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 148 stations in Peoria. Prices in Peoria are 9.7 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 92.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
AAA Illinois’ average price in the Peoria/Pekin metro area was $4.23. The state price was $4.25, and the national average price was $4.11 a gallon for unleaded gas.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest gas in Peoria was $4.05 a gallon on Sunday, while the most expensive gas was $4.49. The lowest price in the state was $3.49, while the highest price was $5.99.
The national average price of gas has risen 10.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.06 on Monday. That’s up 23.9 cents from a month ago and 95.6 cents a gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data.
“Average gasoline and diesel prices rose in nearly every state over the last week, as continued escalations between the U.S. and Iran, renewed Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, and fresh Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries combined to keep upward pressure on both crude and refined product markets,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “However, a weekend pullback in hostilities offered some relief, with oil prices opening sharply lower Sunday, suggesting the pace of increases at the pump may moderate in the days ahead. For now, motorists should expect prices to remain elevated, but the intensity of further gains will depend heavily on how the geopolitical situation develops in the coming week.”
