MORTON, Ill. – A juvenile was taken to a hospital Thursday after being attacked by two dogs in Morton, according to the Morton Police Department.
The incident occurred around 11:55 a.m. in the 500 block of South Fourth Avenue. Tazewell County Animal Control was already in the area investigating two dogs running at large when an officer found the animals actively attacking the child.
A Village of Morton employee and a private citizen stopped to help the victim. Morton Fire Department paramedics transported the juvenile to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Before Morton Police arrived, one of the dogs charged at the citizen who had stopped to help. The citizen, a licensed concealed carry holder, fired a weapon and fatally shot the dog.
Tazewell County Animal Control safely captured the second dog. The owner of both dogs has been identified.
The incident remains under investigation by Tazewell County Animal Control.
