BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL, Ill. – The Bloomington-Normal St. Jude runners hit the pavement Saturday morning bound for Peoria.
Run Coordinator Dennis Cler has been with the team for 29 years.
He says once you run for St. Jude and realize how you’re helping save lives, you’re hooked.
“There are so many people that have been doing this, just with the Bloomington group, for 15 or more years, 20 years or more. They just keep coming back year after year after year. They’re locked in,” Cler says.
All the satellite runs and the Memphis to Peoria runners are expected to cross the Bob Michel Bridge in the Runners Parade at 5 p.m.
“That’s where you’re going to see a lot of the St. Jude families. And, most of the time you can tell who St. Jude kids are…if they’re going through chemo, they don’t have a hair on their head. They want to reach out, and touch your hand, and send you along the way,” Cler says.
The culmination of the St. Jude Runs will be the 49th St. Jude Telethon at the Peoria Civic Center, starting at 6:30.
