PEORIA, Ill. – Heads up if you’re planning to head downtown this Saturday, August 1st.
The annual St. Jude Runs are hitting the streets, and that means a good chunk of downtown Peoria is going to be blocked off between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
The closures mean you need to plan ahead. Whether you’re heading out to support the runners or just trying to navigate your way through town, expect delays. The city is advising everyone to find alternative routes, and parking is going to be restricted along the entire run route.
Here’s the breakdown so you don’t get stuck:
- Starting at 9 a.m.: S.W. Monroe Street is closed between William Kumpf Boulevard and Main Street. Fulton Street is also shutting down between Monroe and Madison, though you can still get into the Pere Marquette Parking Deck.
- Around 2 p.m.: Things tighten up. William Kumpf Boulevard closes between Adams and Romeo B. Garrett Avenue. Expect some closures on Romeo B. Garrett and John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue near Hightower Street.
- During the afternoon: From 2 to 5 p.m., they’ll have rolling lane closures on the Bob Michel Bridge, which is likely to slow down traffic heading west.
- Heading into the evening: Between 5 and 6 p.m., S.W. Jefferson Avenue shuts down entirely from Main to Harrison, and you’ll lose two lanes on Main Street between Monroe and N.E. Jefferson.
Peoria Police say give yourself extra time if you’re driving anywhere near downtown. It’s a busy day for a great cause, but it’s going to be a headache if you’re caught off guard by the barricades. Pack your patience, find a different way around, and stay alert behind the wheel.
