EAST PEORIA, Ill. — City officials in East Peoria are holding preliminary discussions on improvements at EastSide Centre.
EastSide Centre, located on Meadows Avenue, hosts tournaments on the national, regional and local levels in softball, baseball, volleyball, soccer and track. It is also the home for East Peoria youth baseball, softball, basketball and soccer; East Peoria Community High School baseball, softball, soccer, football and track; Central Junior High School baseball, softball and track; Robein School baseball, softball, and track; Peoria Christian High School soccer; and Robert Morris University Football and baseball.
During a working session before the city council meeting Tuesday, concerns were raised regarding the age of the facility and that a large part of it is still original. The facility was built in 1996.
Commissioner Seth Mingus says for East Peoria to stay competitive for the tourism dollar, EastSide Centre may need some improvements. “While EastSide is a nice facility, it’s time to invest some money into it to update some of the things that need to be done.”
Mingus says the subject will be addressed again during budget meetings.
