PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters responded just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday to reports of a structure fire in the 4200 block of W. Richards Way.
Battalion Chief Steve Rada said smoke could be seen coming from the home’s attached garage when crews arrived.
“They had to advance a hand line through the front door, and then make their way into the garage where they encountered heavy black smoke,” Rada said.
Crews had the fire out in a matter of minutes.
“Because of their very swift and deliberate actions, they were able to keep the fire from advancing to the house,” Rada said.
A check of the residence found no one was inside at the time of the fire.
An investigator deemed the blaze accidental.
