SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois is seeing the first decrease in opioid overdose deaths in five years.
But, Gov. J-B Pritzker said that doesn’t apply to minority communities.
“We will not tolerate the racial disparities that come from institutional failures. Recovery belongs in all of our communities,” Pritzker said.
Pritzker said he’s created a special committee to research and coordinate new approaches to ending the disparity.
Pritzker said state officials will also work with law enforcement to curtail illegal drug trafficking activities.
“That includes an online central repository that streamlines and makes available all of our recovery and treatment resources,” Pritzker said.
Pritzker said Illinois will dedicate more than $4 million to expand recovery and prevention services across the state.
