PEORIA, Ill. — Two medical organizations collaborated to create a hospital within a hospital.
Midwest Orthopedic Center and UnityPoint Health celebrated the opening of the new Midwest Orthopedic Hospital at UnityPoint Health-Proctor Tuesday with a ribbon cutting.
Dr. Keith Knepp, Regional President and CEO of UnityPoint Health of Central Illinois, said it was exciting to open up the hospital.
“So, within the halls here at Proctor Hospital, we now have a dedicated orthopedic outpatient hospital. It’s our ability then to provide a really convenient outpatient experience,” Knepp said. “Ground level, walk right in, easy in and out. You can see how beautiful the facility is. And yet we are within the walls of a hospital.”
Knepp said the partnership between Midwest Orthopedic is important for experience, lower cost of care, and high quality care.
“We’ve been partnering the physicians of Midwest Orthopedics for many years, all around those three things,” Knepp said. “And as we did that, we saw around the county more and more places where there was an understanding that a partnership like this, between a hospital and a physician group could really deliver the best both could bring.”
Knepp said they wanted to bring the best to Peoria.
Dr. Nirain D’Souza, Orthopedic surgeon with Midwest Orthopedic Center, said the facility is the first of its kind in the central Illinois region.
“It’s actually a facility designed specifically around an orthopedic patient. That’s specifically somebody having a joint replacement, or a patient that requires surgery for stabilization for a fracture,” D’Souza said.
The facility will help the patient before surgery, during surgery, and after surgery according to D’Souza.
“At this point, we are very confident that the facility is fully capable to handle every orthopedic issue,” D’Souza said.
The hospital is located off N. Knoxville and Sheridan Rd.
