PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighter/paramedics helped deliver a baby Tuesday morning at a residence.
Captain Matt Tyler said the call came in as a women’s water was broke.
“As soon as we walked into the room, she said I need to push,” Tyler said.
The firefighter/paramedics on scene checked the woman out and got set up for delivery, and the baby came quickly.
“Before we knew it, I mean like literally seconds later, she was pushing and there was the head, then there was the shoulders, and then the baby was out, and so it was literally that quick,” Tyler said.
After the delivery, Tyler said they took the mom and baby to a local hospital.
“We walked all the way to the room, the nurses were there to greet her and clean the baby up. Everything went real smooth,” Tyler said.
Tyler said you become a fireman to fight fires, but there is also the medical side.
“We do get amped-up when we get calls like that, because it’s bringing someone into the world. It’s just an overwhelming feeling to be a part of something like that,” Tyler said.
“We work together as a crew, that’s what we’re about. No one gets a single credit. We all get credit for everything that we do. This was crew minded around the Peoria Fire Department.”
Mom and her new baby boy are doing well.
