PEORIA, Ill. — One person suffered burns while attempting to extinguish a stove fire.
Peoria firefighters were called before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening to a multistory apartment complex at 2625 W. Reservoir on a report of a fire alarm.
Upon arrival, firefighters found moderate smoke on the 4th floor of the building. Grease on the stove started a blaze in the kitchen of the apartment.
Peoria Fire Battalion Chief Steve Rada said that a resident of the apartment extinguished the fire.
“One resident was treated and then transported to the hospital for a minor burn on a hand/wrist when the resident attempted to put out the fire,” Rada said.
Fire crews fully extinguished the fire and cooled the area to prevent any re-ignition. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
