PEORIA, Ill. — CityLink is one step closer to outfitting the downtown transit center with solar panels.
As Monday night’s board meeting, trustees authorized Hawk Attolo Energy to seek funding from the state as part of the “Solar for All” initiative.
The funds would be used to purchase and install solar panels at the transit center.
Assistant Manager of Maintenance Nick Standefer says once the panels are installed, Hawk Attolo Energy does the rest.
“They do it all. They maintain them. If anything ever happens to the panels, they will climb up there and take care of them,” said Standefer.
The application is expected to be filed this May. CityLink officials will find out if they secured grant funding this summer, and if so, the solar panels could be in place this fall.
Standefer says the panels are part of CityLink’s “Going Green” initiative, and could lower the center’s electric bill by 50 percent.
“I think it sends a message to the community that we are serious about going green and lowering our carbon footprint.”
