EAST PEORIA, Ill. — The city of East Peoria is in the midst of working on a new fiscal budget for the upcoming year.
The city council has addressed the operational budget, which Mayor John Kahl says remained flat, which is a good thing.
“The city has been pretty frugal for a lot of years. We tout ourselves on a balanced budget and this year will be no different,” said Kahl.
The city council will now turn it’s attention to the capitol budget. Mayor Kahl says the council will prioritize financial requests from department heads in the coming days in preparation for a working session February 25.
Although admitting this is always the toughest part of the budget process, Mayor Kahl feels good about the city’s fiscal situation.
“I do. I feel really good. This council has been really good to work with and the department heads have put a lot of effort into this. We owe it to the taxpayer to do the right thing with their monies,” said Kahl.
The public hearing and first reading of the final proposal will be at the March 17 regular meeting of the city council with the second and final reading expected April 7.
