PEORIA, Ill. — Get those clippings, sticks and leaves ready.
Peoria’s yard waste pickup season returns on Monday, March 16th.
City of Peoria Communications Manager Stacy Peterson points out that residents’ yard waste pickup is always on the same day as their trash pickup.
“We ask that people either label cans or carts with green ‘Yard Waste Only’ stickers. You can pick up these yard waste stickers at City Hall, Public Works, or at Peoria Disposal at PDC. And, those are free,” Peterson said.
Peterson said yard waste materials include grass clippings, leaves, tree limbs, and brush and must be set out for collection no later than 6 a.m. on trash day.
Yard waste cans, carts or loose materials should be placed next to residents’ trash carts, leaving three feet of space between them. Carts should also be removed from the curb or alley by 5 p.m.
Peterson said yard waste needs to be placed in plastic or metal garbage cans that are up to 45 gallons in size, with two handles, and a tight fitting lid.
Wheeled carts should be either 65 or 95-gallon size. City of Peoria trash carts should not be used for yard waste. Paper yard waste bags can not exceed 30 pounds in weight.
Peterson said tree limbs and sticks can be bundled with nonmetallic cord, and must be less than five feet long and less than 50 pounds in weight.
