SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — It’s that time again. The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office reminds the public to “Change Your Clock, Change Your Batteries.”
State Fire Marshal Spokesperson J-C Fultz said, “as we move into Daylight Saving Time this weekend, it’s a chance to not only Spring Forward, but to make sure your smoke alarms are working properly.”
“You’re spending that time to change that clock ahead an hour. With an extra two or three minutes, change that battery in your smoke alarm. Test them. Make sure that they’re working. Because, that two extra minutes you’re doing that could mean life or death,” Fultz said.
The Illinois Fire Marshal’s Office encourages citizens to make sure smoke and carbon monoxide alarms haven’t expired. They typically last about ten years.
Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday at 2 a.m. central time.
