PEORIA, Ill. — A property accident Friday morning caused over $25,000 in damage.
Peoria Police responded around 4:46 a.m. Friday to the area of Allen and Townline Rd. for a report of a hit and run with significant property damage.
Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said officers saw a traffic control box that originally sat on Townline, had been hit with great impact.
“It was knocked from its concrete footing and thrown completely across the north and southbound lanes of Allen Rd.,” Dotson said. “Which then disabled the intersection lights.”
During the investigation, officers obtained information that a late model, light colored Ford pick-up truck was traveling in the westbound lane of Townline.
The truck was traveling at a high rate of speed and left the roadway on the curve before Allen Rd., and struck the traffic control box before landing in a grassy area.
The truck then fled the scene, heading northbound on Allen Rd.
Dotson said anyone with any information about the driver or vehicle can call the Peoria Police Department Traffic Unit at (309) 494-8482, or CrimeStoppers anonymously at (309) 673-9000.
The incident remains under investigation.
