SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Gov. J.B. Pritzker has announced a statewide K-12 school closure to minimize the spread of COVID-19 that will last two weeks.
It will run March 17-30th.
“I’m speaking in the very literal sense. Having the general public stay home one day at a time, will have a massive effect on bending this curve,” Pritzker said.
The state will also implement additional economic measures to reduce the burden on Illinois families in the areas of food availability, daycare and social services.
“Our State Board of Education has received the necessary waivers to continue to distribute two meals a day to children that qualify for for free and reduced lunch,” Pritzker said.
As of now, daycare centers will remain open and will follow strict health and safety guidance.
