PEORIA, Ill. – Authorities have identified the body that was found dead and on fire early Friday monring in South Peoria.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identifies the victim as Clarence Crooks, 56, of Peoria.
Harwood says Crooks did not have identification on him, so he was verified through fingerprints. Crooks was pronounced dead at the scene near Wiswall and Western around 2:20 a.m.
An autopsy indicates Crooks died from smoke and soot inhalation, and the events leading up to the death are not known.
Foul play, Harwood says, has not been ruled out. A police investigation continues as well.
