PEORIA, Ill. – A child has died of a gunshot wound after a Wednesday afternoon incident in the East Bluff.
Peoria Police responded to a residence in the 2300 block of N. Maryland after 4 p.m., on an initial report of a child shot in the chest by a BB gun.
According to Public Information Officer Amy Dotson, when officers arrived they found a young child suffered an actual gunshot wound to the chest.
The shooting victim, 8-year-old Jordin Wilson, was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, where he ultimately succumbed to those injuries.
Dotson said detectives learned the incident was the result of an accidental shooting, which occurred when children were handling a gun inside the home.
The incident remains under investigation.
