PEORIA, Ill. – Organizers have planned multiple protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
As the anger over Floyd’s killing spread to cities nationwide, this now includes Peoria, as local activists want to take the opportunity to take a stand about race, racism and inequality.
According to a Facebook post, a peaceful march will take place on Saturday in downtown Peoria from the riverfront to the Peoria County Courthouse.
The march is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
A flyer was created to promote a “peaceful walk alongside our black brothers and sisters, friends and family. To unite for our freedom, our lives, and our loved ones. We have dreams. We matter. And we don’t deserve to die.”
This week thousands have demonstrated peacefully, demanding justice for George Floyd, a black man who died after a white officer pressed a knee into his neck.
