PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters responded around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to a house fire at 304 E. Republic St.
“When our crews arrived, they found light smoke coming from the home, due to a fire located in some wood rot in the basement,” said Fire Battalion Chief Ralph Phillips.
Crews make quick work in extinguishing the fire.
Thanks to a working smoke detector, the occupants successfully got out of the house and called 911.
“They evacuated the home in plenty of time, as the smoke detector worked just like it was supposed to,” Phillips said.
There were no injuries and the cause of the fire was being ruled undetermined.
