PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighter/Paramedics were called out around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday to a reported structure fire at 2700 W. Willowlake Drive.
Fire crew found a three-story apartment complex with heavy smoke and fire showing from the back of the building.
A fire was reported on a third level deck and extended into the attic area of the building.
The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes.
According to Battalion Chief Michael Hughes, due to the extreme heat, extra crews were called to the scene to help battle the blaze.
“Additional crews were sent inside to start salvage in apartments underneath the fire floor due to the extensive heat and overhaul operations in the attic area,” said Hughes.
All occupants did make it out safely.
According to the fire report, one occupant of an apartment in the building suffered heat exhaustion while outside of the building. The person was treated then transported to a local hospital.
Due to the amount of fire, smoke and water damage to the building, The American Red Cross was called to assist in lodging for 7 of the 12 units in the building.
